We hope that your experience with us will make you and your pet feel like part of our extended Kensington Veterinary Hospital family.
Our Facility: A convenient, modern veterinary facility designed solely with your pet’s care in mind.
Welcome to our “family.” We would like to share our beautiful, state of the art facility with you. The original Kensington Veterinary Hospital was located approximately three blocks east of our facility and was in operation for over thirty years. The original hospital was closed in the early nineteen nineties as it was directly in the path of Highway 15.
We are very pleased and honored to be able to serve the same community as the original Kensington Veterinary Hospital. We offer your special pet the best care available and pride ourselves in high quality, personalized service. We encourage you to let us know how we’re doing; if there are other veterinary services that you may need, please let us know. We love to show off our facility – if you would like a tour, please call for an appointment.
Our hospital logo, based on the traditional “Yin/Yang” symbol of Chinese medicine symbolizes the balance inherent in all life, which we strive to respect and maintain with our care of your pet. Our philosophy of veterinary care is “proactive” – the prevention of problems before they begin. We practice a combination of progressive, conventional, western medicine and natural veterinary care, which assures a variety of treatments available for your pet’s needs. Our office utilizes traditional medicine as well as acupuncture and herbal supplements and treatments.
Acupuncture: In keeping with our philosophy of using more “natural” therapies, we may suggest acupuncture for your pet. Acupuncture, which has been practiced throughout the world for several thousand years, is a proven way to help the body to heal itself. It is safe and usually painless – most pets actually seem to enjoy their treatments!
Dentistry: Your pet’s teeth and mouth are very much like your own – keeping them clean and healthy will help promote comfort and protect overall health as your pet matures. In keeping with our philosophy of proactive medicine, we provide a full range of thorough dental cleaning, oral surgery and dental radiography, using the most modern equipment and the safest anesthetics available. Your pet will feel better, stay healthier and have sweeter breath as a result.
Grooming: “Spa Kensington” is our full-service grooming salon. The “Spa” features the Hydrosurge bathing system, allowing for a deep clean and a warm soak for your pet. Your pet receives a bath, ear cleans, brush and comb out, haircut if desired as well as a nail trim and file during their visit. If necessary, we also offer flea related and medically necessitated dips. Our experienced groomer will also apply flea prevention, if desired to keep your pet feeling it’s best until their next day at the “Spa.”
Homeopathy: As we have explained that our philosophy of veterinary care is “proactive” and in the best interests of the pet, we offer Homeopathy. Homeopathy was developed in Germany about two hundred years ago. It is a system of medicine/healing based on energy, using very, very dilute extracts of natural substances. In some cases, it can work very well and produce dramatic results, or in some cases, with chronic diseases will work very, very slowly. If you have an interest in treating your pet homeopathically, we have recommended reading prior to scheduling a consultation.
Medicine: Our philosophy of veterinary care is “proactive” – the prevention of problems before they begin. We recommend bi-annual to annual examinations for healthy animals. These examinations allow us to check the overall health of the animals, the general appearance, integument (skin) eyes, ears, lymph nodes, teeth/dental, mucous membranes/tonsils, circulatory, respiratory system, urogenital, gastrointestinal/abdomen nervous system and musculoskeletal system.
Routine labwork (blood and urine) is recommended as a baseline, and ideally as part of the annual examination in younger animals and more frequently in older animals. We are able to run blood panels in the hospital for immediate results and we have a full service outside laboratory for overnight results.
We employ a very conservative approach toward vaccinations. There are a number of vaccinations that we do not recommend, vaccines that we recommend only for certain lifestyles and certain vaccines that are recommended. Please view our “Vaccination Question” information under services offered on this website.
Nutritional Counseling: Each animal has different nutritional needs, and diet recommendations should be individualized for each patient. We offer a number of very high quality pet foods in our hospital. We offer high quality maintenance diets in addition to medically necessary diets, natural diets, home prepared diets and raw diet mixes. We realize that not all pets are created equally and each animal has different nutritional needs. We discuss diet routinely as part of the comprehensive physical examination and will gladly schedule a nutritional consultation if desired.
Radiology: Our radiology department enables us to see into your pet’s body to accurately diagnose illnesses that may not be visible to the naked eye. Rest assured that our equipment provides the highest level of protection from radiation for both the technician and the pet. We are also able to perform ultrasound examinations on-site.
Surgery: We perform a full range of surgical procedures in our hi-tech surgical facility, and refer out to local surgical specialists any procedures that we may not be able to perform effectively. We utilize the safest anesthetics available, which minimizes any potential risk for your pet. All patients are very closely monitored, and our electronic surgical monitors immediately notify our surgical team of any change in heart rate or rhythm, respiratory rate, blood oxygenation saturation, carbon dioxide levels, blood pressure, body temperature and anesthetic depth, allowing us to immediately respond to any changes. We utilize the many advancements in pain prevention and management to keep your pet comfortable. Our concern is your pet’s health, comfort and well-being. We have a viewing window into our surgery suite should you wish to view any surgical procedure in progress.
