Front Office - Reception
Marjorie

Marjorie is known to many at Kensington Veterinary Hospital as our resident “pet broker.” In her more then ten years as a core member of our team she has rescued, bottle fed and placed countless animals into new, “forever” homes. Also active in animal rescue and rehabilitation, she almost always knows of wonderful pets looking for new homes! Marjorie has worked in our front office and as a technical assistant. Her current job title is office manager, although she still works actively in either the front or back office as needed. She completed her Bachelor of Arts at San Diego State University in Speech Communications and has completed many courses in animal care. Don’t hesitate to call her up to the front office if you don’t see her just to say hello.

Marjorie’s animal interests are widespread as she also assists in teaching dog obedience courses and works with training aggressive dogs. The remaining hours that Marjorie is not in the hospital are filled with many activities, not the least of which are her husband, seven-year-old daughter and three year old son. She currently has four cats and two Labrador retrievers. Her numbers fluctuate as she is often fostering animals in need.

Beth

Lovingly called “Chief Beth” by doctors and staff alike, Beth is a twenty-three year veteran of the United States Navy. She was primarily an Operating Room Surgical Technician and Chief Hospital Corpsman and still remains a licensed nurse in California. Beth is also a five-year veteran of Kensington Veterinary Hospital. She is the Front Office Supervisor and thrives on organization in all things. Her friendly competent manner welcomes you most days to our front office.

Her out of office interests include glass fusion, kayaking, snorkeling and just about anything to do with Hawaii (she lived on Oahu for five years). She shares her life with a wonderful, demanding cat named Kiki, also a previous resident of Oahu.

Anita

Anita, whose welcoming visage welcomes you most days to our front office has probably the most varied in life experiences. She has an MFA degree in Film and Television Production from the University of Southern California and a Master of Theology from the Colgate Rochester Divinity School. She has over five years of experience in veterinary hospitals, and a life of experience with turtles, raccoons, ducks, gerbils and of course, dogs!

She is an active writer, an avid Duke Basketball and Cleveland Browns football fan and a fan of independent films. Her life is shared with “BJ,” a beagle and “Pepi,” a cocker spaniel. Anita has a unique and wonderful view of the human/animal bond that is worth sharing:

“I believe that when animal companions choose to walk with us, it is a gift – an opportunity to look into the eyes of another living being and know that truly, we are not alone.”

Jackie

Jackie is the health and fitness guru of Kensington Veterinary Hospital. She has been part of our family for four years and is at the same time attending school. She completed her Associate of Science degree from San Diego City College and is working toward completion of her Certificate from American College of Sports Medicine allowing her to become a personal fitness trainer. Her outside interests, not surprisingly, are running and overall fitness. When Jackie is not at Kensington Vet or at school, she has her own pet-sitting business (Perfectly Pampered Pets) and a beloved cat of her own, Bok Choy.

Jackie has been one of our receptionists for years and has recently expanded her interests to include working more hands on with the animals as a technical assistant. Following her interest in health and fitness, Jackie is in charge of all of our nutritional supplements, homeopathic remedies and Chinese herbs.

Grooming - Spa Kensington
Kari

Kari is one of prominent members of the Kensington Veterinary Hospital family. She joined us in May of 1998 as our groomer, and is now much, much more. She is the heart and soul of “Spa Kensington” and takes immense pride in the care and love that she gives each animal. She has clients that travel from all over the county to have her groom their pets. She has been grooming for over twenty-three years and still loves it!

Kari holds a very important part of the Kensington Veterinary Hospital staff and clients separate from being our fabulous groomer. She is a leader amongst the staff and can be counted on to help with treating animals (she is an experienced technical assistant as well) and cheering on the staff. She is able to make all of us laugh, and is a big part in creating the happy environment that we call home.

She also is well known as having a very soft heart and an open home to injured, stray and homeless pets. She fosters and bottle-feeds numerous kittens each year, lavishing them with love prior to sending them to their new homes. Kari’s home is full –she shares it with her husband, a sixteen-year-old son, four dogs, four cats and two birds. If you are not yet acquainted with Kari, please introduce yourself!

Technical Staff
Cheryl RVT, CVDT

Cheryl has been a key member of our staff for almost four years! She has her Associate of Science Degree in Animal Health Technology, is a California State Registered Veterinary Technician and a Certified Veterinary Dental Technician. She is also a member of the California Veterinary Medical Association, the San Diego County Veterinary Medical Association and the Society of Veterinary Dental Technicians. As a Registered Veterinary Technician, many of you have met with Cheryl prior to or after any surgical or anesthetic procedures. She works directly with the veterinarian during the processes of anesthetic induction and surgery, as well as being the supervisor of our technical staff. Her extensive dental training is put to use daily as she performs the dental prophylaxis (dental cleanings) on our patients.

Gabby

Gabriella is an exceptionally gifted member of our hospital staff. She has been with us for over five years and completed her Regional Occupational Program in veterinary assisting prior to joining us. She is gifted in working with difficult to handle animals and her friendly competent manner makes her a favorite with the doctors and clients as well.

Gabby has three dogs, a bird and a cat as well as a six-year-old daughter to keep her very, very busy. Gabby has a large family with whom she enjoys spending lots of time.

Chester:

Chester is our very handsome, not the least bit opinionated hospital cat. He was adopted from the San Diego Count Department of Animal Services after we were alerted to his stellar personality by one of their volunteers in 2007. At approximately eight years old, he keeps himself busy by lounging on the doctors’ desk or sitting in the treatment area, just out of reach of any dogs. In his spare time he likes to play with the catnip toys on the front counter or takes swats at the staff if we ignore him. He is a delight and will hopefully be with us for years to come.

Jess

Jess joined our Kensington family in May of 2008 as one of our technical assistants. She has worked with animals since 2006, shortly after her honorable discharge from the United States Navy. She and her husband have two daughters, two dogs (a Labrador named Daphne and a ten year old Pug named Phoebe) and two cats (Sydney & Comrad Meowski). Jess adores football, cheering loudly for the Broncos. She is a wonderful foster mother to some of the animals that come to Kensington needing a little TLC prior to being placed in their forever homes.

Stephen Ramirez

Stephen is unique in our facility as he is the only male member of our staff. It is fortunate that one of his favorite parts of his job is “testing the nerve” of his female co-workers. In all seriousness, Stephen has been working at Kensington Vet for almost four years and in the veterinary industry for six years. He and his wife share their home with a handsome pit bull named “Shrek.” Stephen enjoys working on automobiles and building model cars in his spare time.
